Ativan is a non-proprietary medication used in the treatment of severe anxiety. The treatment lasts for a few weeks and the dosage is increased steadily depending upon the individual. Active Ingredient

Lorazepam – This is the main and also the active ingredient of Ativan. Lactose Monohydrate – Lactose is present in milk and has been identified as sugar. It is used in pharmaceutical preparations, where its addition to tablets to be used as filler and for its compressibility.

Magnesium Stearate – Magnesium stearate is used as a binding agent for the tablet. Its function in the medical formulation is to prevent the different molecules of the formulation from forming into lumps.

Microcrystalline Cellulose – This is used in the medication for its compressing properties. Its function in the tablet is as an emulsifier, dispersing agent and as a stabilizer.

Polacrilin Potassium – This is one of the listed additives, which is permissible for use in a pharmaceutical formulation.
